There are moments in this life where we stop and we realize how minuscule we are as human beings. We look around us and we start to believe that life would simply “go on” as usual if we were to cease to exist. I believe that is false. I believe that is the darkness slipping in to a place of utter vulnerability. I have been in that place. Many times. I was in Colorado this past week and this is what was on my mind when I went on a very icy, yet beautiful hike through the Rocky Mountains. I was looking out onto a frozen lake and looking at the grandeur of the mountains before me. They made me feel so small and fragile as a human being. On the hike back to my car, I began to think about how every one on this Earth makes every thing move in a certain way. If one person were to suddenly vanish, that would alter the course of life for many, many other people. If my life were to end today, right now, that person at chipotle wouldn’t talk to me and take my order, I wouldn’t be able to help that person in Barnes and Noble after they drop their pile of books, and that person who sees me at a bar wouldn’t be able to give me their number. My point in saying this is that the purpose and meaning of your life is in every person you come in contact with, it’s in every interaction you have, it’s within every touch. These moments can either create havoc or create meaning if you were not in those moments. Your life ending, wouldn’t just impact your family and friends and those close to you. Ultimately this life has meaning in every single action, whether that be big or small, it is not for nothing.
